MUA Oakland presents its inaugural exhibition, Painting Now: 2009, opening during Oakland’s First Friday Art Murmur event on January 2, 2008 from 7PM until 2AM. Mua is an artist run and developed exhibition venue and bar/lounge and restaurant located in the heart of Oakland’s Uptown Arts District. Painting Now: 2009 marks the opening of the second story loft exhibition space created for the purpose of exhibiting local, emerging art in the Bay Area.

Petra Royale Bibeau, Director of MANIAC, an alternative space located in Downtown Oakland produced Painting Now: 2009 to highlight five emerging Bay Area painters who have consistently worked within the tradition of painting coupling their practice with a contemporary context that presents a new consideration of contemporary painting being made in the Bay Area.
